Warriors Community Foundation to launch Wheelchair Rugby team

Warriors Community Foundation and GB Wheelchair Rugby are establishing a wheelchair rugby team in Worcester.

The initiative will be funded from the £240,000 funding the Foundation was awarded in May by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The wheelchair rugby sessions will take place at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on Friday evenings, starting on October 8, between 7pm and 9pm.

Wheelchair rugby is a physical sport, which is ideal for keeping participants active, and healthy as well as improving their upper body strength and increasing their increased independence.

Research has also shown that playing a team sport is also beneficial mentally as well as physically. Playing wheelchair rugby can drastically reduce stress levels and help to combat depression as well as many other mental health problems.

Wheelchair rugby is also fun and a great way to make new friends. It can be played as a hobby and a way to socialise or it can be played more seriously and competitively. Those also eligible for the Paralympic discipline can also aim to represent Great Britain in the event at the Paralympic Games.
