Warriors recruit another Lion

Warriors have recruited a third member of the British and Irish Lions squad that was on duty in South Africa earlier this summer.

Luke Broadley was a Communications Manager for the Lions who included Warriors’ new recruits Duhan van der Merwe and Rory Sutherland in their squad.

Broadley will join Warriors from the Welsh RU, where he was Head of Team Communications, and succeeds Mark Hewitt, who stepped down at the end of the 2019/20 season, as Team Manager at Sixways.

“One of the huge things we are driving is the Warriors Family. It’s not just a place of work for players. We want the players to truly feel that they belong here and their families are happy,” said Warriors Head Coach Jonathan Thomas.

“We want to make it a collaboration and connection between players, families, supporters and all the different departments within the club.

“We want to make it one big family because, if people feel that they belong and they are happy they are going to give more on the field.

“Luke’s appointment as Team Manager is huge one for us. He’s got great experience, he’s just come back from the Lions, he’s been involved in high performing teams for a number of years albeit in a different role.

“But from the conversations I have had with people about Luke he has always gone above and beyond in his role.

“When we interviewed him Luke was an outstanding candidate and he is someone we think will add huge value to what we are trying to do off the field around our family and everything that the Team Manager role entails.”

Broadley, who worked for the Welsh RU for more than eight-and-a-half years, also worked on the 2012 London Olympics and is relishing his new challenge.

“I’m hugely excited to be joining the Warriors at what I believe is a special time for the club,” Broadley said.

“Speaking with both Alan Solomons and Jonathan Thomas their enthusiasm and passion is infectious, and they have a great vision for the club.

“I know the squad and management have put a lot of hard work in already ahead of the new season and I’m excited to get to work and to add value where I can.”

Last season Mike Hall, Manager of the Three Pears Warriors Academy, acted as interim Team Manager. With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Hall will concentrate on developing the outstanding young talent coming through the ranks at Sixways, allowing Broadley to join the club in a full-time capacity.

“It is fantastic that the club has been able to secure the services of Luke as Team Manager,” said Director of Rugby Solomons.

“Luke has an incredible skills set and has garnered tremendous experience in his roles with both the Welsh International team and the British and Irish Lions.

“He has a real point of difference and will add huge value to the club. He is also a quality individual and a good team player, who will fit in well here at Sixways.”
