Warriors ACE League team frustrated in Newcastle

Stourport High School and Sixth Form College, were beaten 22-8 at Gosforth Academy, their counterparts from Newcastle Falcons, in their second match in this season’s RFU ACE League.

Stourport dominated the match for large periods and were held up over the line four times which, under the amended laws, meant a drop-out to Gosforth rather than an attacking five metres scrum.

A penalty from fly-half Jack Condliffe (Luctonians) gave Stourport an early lead before Gosforth then responded with an unconverted try from a quick tap penalty.

Stourport responded with a try from hooker Ethan Allen of Telford Hornets after maul from a lineout took them to the line.

But Gosforth regained the lead on the half-hour with an another unconverted try and they then absorbed heavy pressure in the second half to deny Stourport.

After Stourport were repeatedly frustrated close to the line, Gosforth twice scored breakaway tries to clinch victory.

Stourport continue their ACE League season with a home match against Bishop Burton College, the Yorkshire regional team, at Sixways on Wednesday September 22 (kick-off 3.00pm).
