Loan watch | Warriors pair help Coventry to opening day win

Warriors pair Tom Howe and Joe Richardson helped Coventry open their Championship campaign with a 39-22 win over Doncaster Knights at the Butts Park Arena.

Wing Howe has joined Coventry on a loan arrangement having spent a previous spell there while he was with Wasps and Coventry were in National One.

Howe featured in Coventry’s third try, supplying the scoring pass for debutant openside flanker Josh Bainbridge, while hooker Richardson, a member of the Three Pears Warriors Academy, gained valuable senior experience off the bench for the final 15 minutes.

Three more Warriors players made their debuts off the bench for Ampthill in their Championship match against Nottingham at Lady Bay on Friday.

Back-row forward Morgan Monks, fly-half Fin Smith and scrum-half Ollie Wynn all came off the bench in the second half.
Monks marked his debut with a try and Smith landed two conversions but it was not quite enough to prevent Ampthill from going down 36-26.

In National Two North, wing Tobi Wilson and hooker Finn Theobald-Thomas helped Stourbridge to a 36-27 away win over Chester.

Wilson made his first start for Stourbridge and played the full 80 minutes while Thomas came on as a second half replacement to help overturn a 17-14 deficit after 30 minutes.

Loosehead prop Ben Murphy and lock Cheick Kone made their debuts as replacements for Luctonians in their 18-10 defeat against Tynedale in Northumberland.

Murphy, who came off the bench for Warriors in last week’s friendly at Cornish Pirates, and Kone, who is in his first year on the Senior Academy at Sixways, have joined Herefordshire-based Luctonians on dual registrations.
