Ted Hill and Ollie Lawrence named in England training squad

Warriors’ pair Ted Hill and Ollie Lawrence have been included in England’s squad for a training camp at the Lensbury club in London next week.

Back-row forward Hill won his second cap as a replacement in the victory over USA in the first summer international at Twickenham in July. An ankle injury sustained in training ruled him out of the Test against Canada the following week.

Centre Lawrence scored his maiden international try against USA in his seventh appearance for England.

He made his debut as a replacement against Italy in the last match of the delayed 2020 Six Nations last October and played three times in this year’s tournament.

England Head Coach Eddie Jones was at Sixways on Saturday to see Hill and Lawrence help Warriors to a 36-24 win over London Irish in the opener to the new Gallagher Premiership season.

“This is an exciting squad made up of experienced players and young guys who did well in the summer and have earned their place again,” Jones said.

“We have left out some experienced players but we’re really clear that the door isn’t closed to them, and we’re looking forward to seeing them work hard to get back into contention.

“We have five campaigns now until the 2023 World Cup so each one counts, and this is a chance for this 45 to impress the new coaching staff.”

England’s squad will train at the Lensbury in Teddington from Sunday to next Tuesday and it will be the first time England’s new coaching staff will work with the players, after the appointments of Richard Cockerill, Martin Gleeson and Anthony Seibold over the summer.

The camp will form part of England’s preparations for the Autumn Nations Series  when they will host Tonga on November 6, Australia on November 13 and world champions South Africa  on November 20.
