Warriors Ace League team edged out

Stourport HS and Sixth Form Centre were edged out 17-10 by Bishop Burton College, the Yorkshire regional team, in their latest match in the RFU ACE League at Sixways.

It was a match of missed opportunities for Stourport, Warriors’ ACE League team, but they claimed a losing bonus point when fly-half Dan Chambers (Wolverhampton) converted his own late try.

Bishop Burton took the lead early when several penalties in the Stourport 22 eventually led to a try from a driving maul.

Stourport hit back with a sequence of attacks but could not quite cross the line. However, the pressure eventually resulted in a straightforward penalty kick at goal which Chambers neatly slotted.

Bishop Burton closed the half out with another score and conversion which gave them a 12-3 lead at the break.

The Yorkshire side scored an unconverted try early in the second half to go 14 points clear but Stourport responded by camping in Bishop Burton territory for most of rest of the match.

After a number of close calls, Chambers took a quick tapped penalty and darted in at the corner and then added a difficult conversion from the touchline to clinch a consolation bonus point.

Stourport’s next match in the competition is against City of Oxford College, their counterparts from Wasps, at Oxford Harlequins RFC on Wednesday September 29 (kick-off 3.00pm).
