Duhan van der Merwe scores a try as Scotland beat Japan

Warriors’ wing Duhan van der Merwe helped Scotland defeat Japan 29-20 in their final Autumn Nations Series match at BT Murrayfield.

Van der Merwe gave Scotland an early lead when he crossed from close range to score his ninth try in 13 appearances for Scotland but his first international try since he joined Warriors from Edinburgh Rugby during the summer.

Scotland captain Stuart Hogg scored a Scotland record 25th international try but it was not until Finn Russell slotted a late penalty that Japan’s resistance was broken.

Warriors back-row forward Sione Vailanu won his ninth international cap for Tonga in their 32-20 defeat by Romania in Bucharest.

Vailanu came on as a second half replacement but was unable to prevent Tonga from ending their four-match tour winless.
