International Watch | Warriors Women in action

Lydia Thompson marked her 50th England cap with two tries as England Women swept aside USA 89-0.

Thompson, who was one of 10 Warriors on international duty over the weekend, led the team out to a rapturous reception from the 7,515 crowd.

There were three Warriors on show in all at Sixways, with Red Roses teammate Alex Matthews and USA second-row Alycia Washington also in action.

It took Thompson 12 minutes to score the try that many inside the stadium came to see as she squeezed in at the corner on the back of dominant scrum close to USA’s line. On 64 minutes Thompson doubled her tally of tries for the afternoon – this time showing incredible footwork to stay in the field of play as she dived for the line.

Washington kept fighting until the end, despite the margin of the score line and was a credit to the club on what was a proud day for the city of Worcester.

Another Warrior on the scoresheet was Carys Phillips who keeps scoring tries for fun on the international stage, the experienced hooker dotting down for Wales’ solitary try in a 24-7 defeat to a Canada side comprising of Warriors wing Paige Farries.

Phillips and fellow front-row Caryl Thomas both started for the home side, while Alex Callender and Ffion Lewis came off the bench.

Minori Yamamoto was among the replacements for Japan in their narrow 15-12 defeat against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, while a special mention must go to Sara Moreira who was in the Portugal camp as they took on Brazil.
