Liza Burgess to join Wales at the end of the season

Warriors Women can confirm that Forwards Coach Liza ‘Bird’ Burgess will be leaving her role at the end of the season to join the WRU as a Lead Age Grade coach.

Burgess will continue in her post at Sixways until the end of the 2021/22 season and remains committed to helping Warriors build on their positive start to the campaign.

“Worcester Warriors embodies everything that I enjoy about coaching, and it continues to be a huge privilege to work at the club,” said Burgess.

“I will be giving my all for Warriors between now and the end of the season, and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve as a team.

“The management team as well as all the players have been fantastic ever since I arrived at the club, and I’ve been impressed with the club’s vision and values.

“I’ve coached talented players for a long time, both at an academy level and within the Allianz Premier 15s. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed coaching some of the best players in the world game at Gloucester-Hartpury and Worcester Warriors, but developing young players who could represent Wales in the future is massive for me.

“There is so much Welsh talent, not just in Wales but throughout the UK and beyond. We need to capture and develop that talent and give the players the support and opportunity to be the best athletes they can be and that is very exciting.”

Burgess has seen Warriors Women progress this season, with Premier 15s wins against Sale Sharks and Loughborough Lightning as well as the cup victory over Saracens underlining the growing talent within the squad.

Warriors Women host Exeter Chiefs in the Allianz Premier 15s this Saturday, the second part of a double-header with the men who take on Wasps in the Gallagher Premiership.
