Warriors ACE League team prepare for Finals Day with win

Stourport HS & Sixth Form College, Warriors’ RFU ACE League team, warmed up for next week’s Plate final by defeating a strong Hartpury College side 21-5 in a friendly at Sixways.

Stourport will face Beechen Cliff School from Bath in the Plate final at Stourbridge on Wednesday December 8 (kick-off 10.30am) while Hartpury will contest the Cup final later in the day.

Stourport wanted a hard fixture to test themselves ahead of Finals Day and they got it against a Hartpury side – their Gloucester counterparts – who are unbeaten in the ACE competition.

Hartpury took the lead with a well-worked early try but Stourport responded with a series of pick-and-go attacks which forced a penalty under pressure. Fly-half Dan Chambers (Wolverhampton) tapped and ran the penalty and scored under the posts then converted his own try.

Those were the only scores in the first half but Stourport dominated possession and territory after the break and two tries from centre Will Pugh (Luctonians) both converted by Matt Smith (Sutton Coldfield) sealed the win.
