Montgomery helps Pirates defeat Jersey

Warriors back-row forward Caleb Montgomery helped Cornish Pirates edge out Jersey Reds 21-17 in a tense Championship match at The Mennaye on Sunday.

Montgomery, who has been loan at Pirates all season, started and played 57 minutes before he was replaced.

Pirates were ten points down at the break but they denied Jersey any further points in the second half and secured victory with two converted tries of their own, with the decisive one coming from Tom Kessell.

Warriors loosehead prop Lewis Holsey started for Hartpury in their 21-20 defeat by Ampthill at the Alpas Arena.

Holsey played the first 54 minutes before he was replaced while Warriors club-mate Ollie Wynn was again and unused replacement for Hartpury.

Three more members of the Three Pears Warriors Academy – Jack Forsythe, Ben Murphy and Cheick Kone – helped Luctonians to a 16-10 win at Wharfedale in National Two North.

Forsythe played the full match at blindside flanker, Murphy played the first 62 minutes at loosehead and Kone came on as a second row replacement for the final quarter of a match in which all the points were score before half-time.
