Team News | Hill to lead out Warriors in Premiership Rugby Cup final

England international Ted Hill will have the honour of leading Warriors out against London Irish in the Premiership Rugby Cup final at the Brentford Community Stadium on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).

Warriors are appearing in their first major domestic final and Club Captain Hill will make his first appearance in the competition since October 2019.

Hill will captain Warriors from number eight in a swap with Matt Kvesic who moves to the openside flank.

Hill and Wales international centre Ashley Beck are the only two players in a strong starting XV who have not played for Warriors in the cup this season.

Jamie Shillcock will start his first game in two months following his recovery from an ankle injury. Shillcock started in the cup match at Exeter Chiefs on March 19 but will be at full-back for the final.

British and Irish Lions wing Duhan van der Merwe, who played a pivotal role in the semi-final victory over Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm, returns from a sore Achilles tendon which ruled him out of the Gallagher Premiership match against Newcastle Falcons two weeks ago.

Another Lion, Rory Sutherland, has been named among the replacements with Ethan Waller, who captained the side in the semi-final, named as the starting loosehead prop.

England international centre Ollie Lawrence is set to make his first appearance since early December following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Lawrence has also been named as a replacement with Scotland tighthead Murray McCallum proving further international experience from the bench.

Warriors have used more than 53 players in the competition so far this season, including four loan players and a trialist, and that will increase to 57 if Lawrence and Sutherland get on in the final.
