Seven tries on the road secures victory at Ampthill

Sunday 01 February 2026

Worcester Warriors got back to winning ways in the Champ with a bonus-point victory over Ampthill.

The Warriors crossed for seven tries on the road to end their run of four consecutive defeats.

Despite some strong early field position for the hosts, it was Worcester who took the lead and with it the game's momentum when Tim Anstee strode down the left wing following a line-out before feeding Will Lane, who ran in.

Warriors second try came just three minutes later when Will Trewin received the ball out wide and put in a delightful dink over the top. The full-back couldn’t claim the bouncing ball, but James Short was on hand to grab Worcester’s second.

And a third Warriors try came before the fifteen mark, with successive penalties giving the visitors strong field position before Thabo Ndimande went over from the back of a driving maul.

Worcester continued to dominate the momentum of the game, with a powerful scrum which won seven scrum penalties across the game, providing a strong attacking platform throughout.

When Oscar Wilson was bundled into touch inside his own 22 with five minutes to go in the first half, Worcester again capitalised on the field position to go over from the driving maul, this time second-row James Tyas dotting down, giving his side a 22-0 lead at the break.

The Warriors began the second half much like they did the first, crossing inside the first ten minutes through Josh Bassett after the winger received the ball out wide after successive forward phases under the sticks.

Ampthill continued to push the Warriors and crossed for their opening try when back-row Ollie Mullarkey picked a strong line to go over under the posts.

As both sides emptied their bench, the momentum of the game was stunted somewhat, and it took until the final ten minutes for a further score when Hallam Chapman dived over from close range for Worcester’s sixth of the afternoon.

And Worcester’s seventh and final try of the afternoon came soon after a piece of magic from Juan González to weave himself through the Ampthill defence before throwing an exquisite offload to Jake Garside, who finished brilliantly.

The clock ticked into the red, but there was still time for a consolation Ampthill try with Totoa Auva’a scoring his side's second to round off the scoring.
