Matt Rogerson Announced as Club Captain And Warriors Squad vs Bath Announced
Thursday 18 September 2025
Matt Rogerson is announced as Club Captain for the 2025/26 Worcester Warriors squad competing in the newly re-branded second tier of rugby, The Champ. This week also marks a momentous occasion as Rogerson will be stepping out as captain in our upcoming pre-fixture against Bath on 19th September at Sixways, marking 1,091 days since Warriors last played at home.
Speaking on his appointment, Rogerson said; “It’s a huge honour for me, Evs asked me to go away and think about it but it was a pretty easy decision to be honest.”
“There’s a real good buzz around here at the moment- the players, the group of staff we’ve assembled is really exciting and I think we can do good things.”
Rogerson lines up in the back-row alongside Matt Kvesic and Tim Anstee who starts at 6 for the second week in a row.
James Tyas also starts again and is joined this week by Owain Evans with Billy Keast, Archie Vanes and Tim Hoyt rounding off the forward pack.
In the backs, Lloyd Williams and Tiff Eden start at scrum-half and fly-half, with Billy Twelvetrees and Tom Seabrook lining up in the centres.
The starting XV is completed by a back three of Josh Bassett, Siva Naulago and full-back Louis Brown.
Head Coach Matt Everard has again named an extended bench, this time of thirteen players, including former Bath duo Khalik Kareem and James Short.
On Rogerson’s appointment, Everard said “Matt leads by example on and off the pitch, both in the way he talks to the group but also how he conducts himself.”
“Leadership isn’t just on one player and Matt has a fantastic leadership group around him with hugely experienced players for him to utilise.”
With a sell-out crowd at Sixways for Bath’s arrival, Rogerson added how important it is for the squad to embrace the Warriors support.
“At the end of the day, the fans are the heart of what we do and we really want to bring that excitement back to Sixways, bring that buzz and bring people back together again.”
“Having a local rival come over and selling out the stadium at the first time of asking is incredible – I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”
