Warriors run in twelve tries in victory over Cambridge
Sunday 22 March 2026
With the sun shining down on Sixways, Worcester ran in twelve tries to secure a dominant victory over Cambridge.
A tight first-half saw the Warriors lead by just nine points, before running away with it in the second-half with free-flowing rugby bringing nine tries in the second period.
Worcester crossed early in the first half when Juan González read a pass outwide from Cambridge perfectly to run in for the first points of the afternoon.
The visitors started to grow into the game, and they were rewarded when, after a long period of pressure, their full-back Ben Currie strolled over with Jimmy Thompson converting to level the scores.
And a few minutes later, Cambridge were ahead with Thompson knocking over a penalty.
But the lead didn’t last long before Warriors second-row Hallam Chapman latched on to the back of a driving maul to score Worcester’s second of the afternoon.
The final ten minutes of the half saw a flurry of yellow cards with both sides receiving two each in quick succession.
First, Warriors prop Cam Miell saw yellow for persistent infringements before his front-row colleague Tim Hoyt joined him in the sin-bin following a high tackle.
But with Cambridge missing touch from a penalty, the Warriors switched into attacking mode and peppered the visitors' line with phase after phase.
The momentum switch in the Warriors' favour ended with both Eli Caven and Otumaka Mausia seeing yellow, both for deliberate knock-ons.
And with the game back at 13-a-side, field position eventually paid off for the Warriors with Tim Anstee powering over.
It took just a minute for Worcester to cross in the second half, with Roma Zheng getting the ball in his hands out wide before breaking the tackle and running in.
James Short added Warriors' fifth of the afternoon soon after, before Zheng scored his second after receiving a seed of a pass from Louis Brown, with Cambridge’s Ben Currie seeing yellow for a high tackle on Zheng in the build-up to the try.
The floodgates had now opened with Will Reed crossing for his first try after some lovely handling from Brown and Gonzalez.
Replacement scrum-half Lloyd Williams and full-back Brown added the Warriors eight and ninth of the afternoon, before on his return to action following injury, Alfie Garside collected a chipped kick before weaving his way to the try-line.
Williams added his second and his side's eleventh after a strong break from Warriors debutant Hugh Bokenham.
And the scoring was rounded off by fly-half Reed, who added his second of the afternoon following some more scintillating rugby from the Warriors.
