Sixways speedster Garvey signed up

Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce that ‘class finisher’ Marcel Garvey has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Sixways Stadium.

Garvey, 26, who previously played for Gloucester, has impressed under Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock and will now remain at the club until at least 2012.

The flying wing, who has scored 80 points in 64 appearances for Warriors, has represented England A and England U21, being an integral part of the Under 21 World Cup team in 2004. He has also been a member of the England Sevens set-up.

“Marcel Garvey has a signed a contract extension at the Warriors and we are delighted that he has chosen to do that,” said Ruddock.

“He is a class finisher and has worked really hard at his game over the last few seasons.

“There haven’t been a huge amount of try scoring opportunities since the introduction of the new tackle law. However, when that eases off, as I am sure it will, and the wingers get more of the ball there is no better finisher than Marcel Garvey.

“I’m sure it won’t be too long before we see him nailing down even more try scoring opportunities for Warriors.”

Garvey, who has this season scored tries against Leeds Carnegie and Sale Sharks in the Guinness Premiership, said: “I’m really pleased to agree the new contract and commit my future to Warriors.

“I feel settled here at Worcester and have really enjoyed my time at Sixways where my all-round game has really developed in the last few seasons under the current coaching staff.

“I’m now looking ahead to the second part of this season, playing my part to help push the club up the Guinness Premiership table, and also the coming years as the Warriors look to build on the real belief and talent we have within the squad.”
