West End shows set to bring joy to community

London’s West End is coming to Worcester – Sixways Stadium to be precise, and what a welcome treat it is for the community and wider region after 16 months of hardship.

The finishing touches are being made to the trio of productions, which kicks-off with An Evening of Abba on Friday 6 August followed by An Evening of Queen on Saturday 7 August. An Evening of Tina takes place on Friday 27 August.

Stars of the shows are set to appear on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester this week to chat all things Abba, Queen and Tina as they prepare to perform in front of an audience for the first time in almost two years.

Malcolm Spencer, Event Director for all three shows said: “We can’t wait to bring the shows to Sixways Stadium and we’re in for a brilliant night’s entertainment over the three evenings.

“Ricardo Afonso who plays Freddie in An Evening of Queen, has one of the best voices I’ve ever worked with.

“I would put him in the top three artists I’ve ever worked with, and he is an exceptional performer. He was the lead singer in We Will Rock You and he has his own following in many ways – he is the most Queen passionate man that you will ever meet.”

The re-opening of the hospitality and events industry has been a watershed moment for the UK, and everyone at Sixways Stadium is relishing the prospect of hosting these amazing shows.

Spearheaded by co-owners Colin Goldring and Jason Whittingham, Warriors have come through unbelievable adversity to ensure that the club is able to put on the shows.

“We are very excited to open up fully again and welcome as many guests as possible into an environment which is as safe as it can be,” said Peter Kelly, Managing Director at Worcester Warriors.

“After 16 hard months, we all deserve to have some great entertainment with our family and friends, and the Sixways family looks forward to welcoming you all.”
