Adams named in Wales squad for NatWest 6 Nations

Flying winger gets first Wales call-up

Warriors winger Josh Adams has been named in the Wales squad ahead of the NatWest 6 Nations, which will begin next month.

The 22-year-old has won his first call-up for his country after a series of sensational performances in Club colours this season.

Adams has raced to the top of the Aviva Premiership try-scoring charts after crossing the whitewash nine times in the top-flight this season and was named Premiership Player of the Month for December.

He scored in six consecutive Premiership games earlier this campaign and helped Warriors secure crucial victories over Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers and London Irish.

Adams is one of two uncapped players named in the Wales squad alongside Scarlets’ James Davies. The duo will link up with their new teammates when the Wales squad convene at the National Centre of Excellence next Monday.

And the Academy graduate could find himself up against Warriors teammate David Denton when the tournament gets underway on Saturday 3 February after Denton was called up to the Scotland squad on Tuesday.

Josh Adams said: “I’m naturally immensely excited to be called up to the Wales squad as it is something I have dreamt about since I first started playing rugby.

“My focus now is on continuing to work hard and learning as much as I can when I join up with the Wales squad next week.”

Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland said: “It is an exciting opportunity for the two new caps. For Josh it’s a great opportunity. He’s been on great form and the back-three is somewhere we are looking to create depth in.

“We have selected a larger squad and it is an opportunity for us to work with a wider group and continue building for the next 18 months.

“It’s important to have a group of players who are used to the environment, know what is expected and are familiar with things and that will really benefit us going forward.”

The talented back becomes the first Warriors player to be selected for Wales since Chris Horsman, who made his Wales debut against New Zealand during his time at Sixways and went on to win all 14 of his caps as a Warriors player.
