Varley wins Valkyries Player of the Month

Young centre wins Player of the Month award

Valkyries centre Megan Varley has been picked up the Player of the Month award for January, sponsored by Councillor Richard Udall.

Varley, 18, is in her first season of senior rugby and is making a big impression in the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

And Valkyries Director of Rugby Roy Davies admits his in-form centre has a big future ahead of her.

He said: “Meg has been nothing short of a revelation this season. She has stepped up from junior rugby at a difficult time for the Club and has grown throughout the season.

“It is widely accepted that 13 is the most difficult position to defend from, and she has been exceptional in that area, as well as offering a powerful carrying option in attack.”

Varley, who hails from Coventry and is a product of the Worcester RFC Under 18s, put in strong personal displays against Loughborough Lightning, Saracens and Richmond in January, in a month where Valkyries showed glimpses of their potential.

Davies continued: “Meg has a great work ethic, shows excellent leadership for someone so young, and I have no doubt if she continues to develop at her current rate she will get international recognition.

“Having already been invited in to train with the England Under 20s, she knows that she’s close and continued strong performances like those in January can only help.”
