Warriors AASE beaten in tough away assignment

Warriors’ AASE League team, Stourport High School, went down 46-15 to their Saracens’ counterparts, Oakland College in what is likely to be their toughest match of the season.

Stourport threatened an upset when they trailed 15-10 at one stage in the first half before Oaklands College asserted themselves and pulled clear.

Stourport’s early pressure was rewarded with a penalty from Jai Crippin after Oaklands turned over possession and Tobi Wilson weaved his way through the home defence.

Oaklands responded with a brace of unconverted tries and then had to defend stoutly to repel a series of Stourport attacks.

Oaklands broke from defence with a long downfield kick which bounced favourably to set up their third try.

Stourport demonstrated their resilience by responding with a try from Crippin, who picked a gap and went over, and added the conversion himself to reduce the deficit to five points.

But Oaklands finished the half strongly with two converted tries giving them a 14 points cushion at the break.

Oaklands capitalised on handling errors and turnovers to stretch their lead after the break although Stourport’s efforts were not reflected in the final scoreline.

Stourport are next in action on Wednesday October 9 when they play Gosforth Academy, Newcastle’s Falcons AASE team, at Sixways (kick-off 4.00pm).
