Warrior Harries scores try in Wales win

Warriors Women forward Sioned Harries was on the scoresheet to help Wales defeat Ireland 15-13 on Sunday.

Harries was a replacement, with fellow Warriors Alex Callender, Gwen Crabb and Ffion Lewis starting the clash in Dublin.

In a tight affair, Wales were 5-0 down at the break before Harries stormed through to score her side’s first try midway through the second-half.

And it took until the final action of the game for Wales to take the lead through Kiera Bevan’s last-minute score.

Coach Geraint Lewis was pleased with his team’s performance.

“I think we deserved the win in the end. It was pleasing to see the improvement from last weekend. You can see the difference in the girls’ performance with an extra game and an extra week’s training under their belt,” he said.

“We can take something from most areas of the game today – forwards and backs. Our workrate was better and we showed more cohesion.

“Ireland put us under a lot of pressure, especially in the first half but we hung in there in defence and scored some good tries too.

“Our character was admirable and if we can show that again next week and produce similar level of performance, we will give ourselves a good chance.”

Wales play Scotland in Scotstoun next Sunday (kick-off 3pm).

Meanwhile, Warriors Women wing Lydia Thompson was an unused replacement as the Red Roses defeated France 20-10 in Clermont.

Thompson will hope to be involved in the reverse fixture at Sandy Park on Saturday (kick-off 1.10pm).
