Mullan named in England Saxons EPS

Worcester Warriors prop Matt Mullan is celebrating after today (Wednesday) being named in the England Saxons EPS squad.

The front row ace has been named by England Team Manager Martin Johnson and England Saxons Head Coach Stuart Lancaster.

Former Bromsgrove School pupil Mullan, a product of the Sixways Academy, missed three months of action after suffering a hamstring injury against Montpellier in the Amlin Challenge Cup in early October.

But the 22-year-old is now back in the Warriors squad and set to feature in Saturday’s game with Olympus Rugby XV Madrid.

Mike Ruddock, Director of Rugby, said: “It is fantastic news for Matt that he has been named in the England Saxons EPS.

“With the injury to Andrew Sheridan, it looks like Matt is now well positioned to get a senior call-up for the start of the Six Nations, once he proves his fitness to the selectors.

“This would be great news for us as it would add to our achievement of getting Alex Grove capped by Scotland in the autumn internationals.

“With a World Cup not too far away, this is a great step forward for him and I’m sure he will grasp it with both hands. I would also expect some of our other younger players to push hard to gain recognition, in particular players like Tom Wood and Miles Benjamin.”
