Ryan – LV= Cup has given us boost

Dean Ryan believes the first two rounds of LV= Cup matches have given his side a huge boost.

Warriors claimed their first win of the season at Cardiff Arms Park last Friday before narrowly missing out on another victory against Leicester Tigers at Sixways.

And, according to the Director of Rugby, his team will be looking for the same form when they return to Aviva Premiership action against Sale Sharks next Friday.

He said: “In terms of what we’re trying to do in the LV= Cup it’s been brilliant and we’ve had a really good two weeks.

“It’s given us a huge boost and I’m really pleased with the team. I’m disappointed to lose as I always am but that isn’t going to take away from the positives that we’ve seen.

“We’ve got to carry that momentum into the Premiership and see if we can get the same sort of form and same competitive nature.”

Warriors dominated proceedings against Leicester in the first-half and there were stand out performances from midfield duo Max Stelling and Andy Symons.

And Ryan admits he will face a selection headache when he picks his team to face Sale.

He continued: “We’re looking at who is going to play going forward. Max and Andy were outstanding. Some of the young players have invigorated the place and have been a breath of fresh air.

“A few players are close to playing Premiership rugby next week but we have to get that balance right.

“The performance against Leicester gives the people around the edges of the team a shot in the arm.

“The dynamics of who thinks they are playing in the Premiership starts to change and that’s what a healthy club looks like.”
