New home for Warriors Academy youngsters

Warriors are delighted to confirm the purchase of a 12-bedroom property on Bath Road, Worcester which will be converted to house the Warriors Senior Academy from the 2015/16 season.

Commenting on the acquisition, Warriors Chief Executive Jim O’Toole said: “The property will now undergo extensive refurbishment in preparation for the 2015/16 intake of Academy players.

“It will become a first-class facility and by providing the Academy players with a proper home, the Club will be better equipped to attract talented youngsters from across the region.

“The move is another of the Club’s intentions to continue its long-term commitment to developing and helping nurture local talent.”

Warriors have already set-up five regional Junior Academy Centres this season across the West Midlands with another set to be unveiled next month at Hereford Cathedral School.

During this campaign, the Club has seen 11 of its Academy players represent Warriors with Director of Rugby Dean Ryan presenting opportunities for youngsters to flourish under his regime.

Andrew Boyce, Jack Cosgrove, George de Cothi, Tiff Eden, Jon Hughes, Perry Humphreys, Shay Kerry, Christian Scotland-Williamson, Huw Taylor and Josh Watkins have all featured for Warriors this term, while tighthead prop Mike Daniels has become a first-team regular making 16 appearances to date and notching a remarkable 70-metre try in last month’s win over Doncaster Knights.

A number of the young stars will be back in action this Wednesday night when Warriors’ second-string side Worcester Cavaliers take on The Army at Sixways (kick-off 7.30pm).
