Worcester Warriors chairman Cecil Duckworth wants supporters to join his crusade to make Sixways the cleanest in Guinness Premiership rugby.
He’s calling on them to leave the ground litter-free and environmentally-friendly, and to do the same with all the roads, paths and car parks they use to reach it.
“Many of you already make use of the bins we provide,” he says in his programme notes for Saturday’s opening GP match against Bristol. “But I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that it annoys me when I leave the ground and see so much rubbish waiting to be collected.
“The evidence of a great match-day at Sixways should be the buzz of excitement that follows supporters on their way home, not a trail of bottles, bags and containers cast to one side carelessly.”
The message is being endorsed by the Warriors players, who organise a four-man ‘duty’ team every day to make sure the pitches, training areas and changing rooms are clean and litter-free.
Mr Duckworth wants supporters to follow suit and make sure each group of supporters leaves their seats as tidy as when they found them.
“Better still, let’s put litter in a bag straight away and try to make sure it never even hits the ground.”
Mr Duckworth’s environmental work has won great plaudits since he established the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust in 1998.
It is dedicated to the conservation, protection and enhancement of the natural and built environments for the people of Worcestershire, and it also aims to relieve poverty among the disadvantaged.
