Head coach Anthony Eddy says Worcester Warriors can take plenty of positives from Saturday’s EDF Energy Cup defeat at the hands of a strong Leicester side – and knows his team needs to rediscover the ability to turn pressure into points when they have opponents on the back foot.
Tigers called up their big-guns for the Group D match, determined to maximise their chances of a bonus point victory that would give them one foot in the semi-finals.
They scored two sparkling early tries, but Warriors fought back through hard graft in the tight and confident running in the loose to keep the contest close until the late stages.
“They got off to a fantastic start,” says Eddy, “and it’s pretty hard to come back from that against a team like it. But we weren’t out of the race right up to the last five minutes or so.
“From the start of the second half, we put them under pressure but we weren’t able to sustain it for the whole period. That’s the story of our season. When we get our opportunities, we’ve got to take them. Almost every chance they had, they came away with points.
“We’ve addressed that over the past couple of weeks so, hopefully, between now and the Gloucester match on Friday, we’ll show an even higher rate of improvement.”
