Sixways rising star Cox signs contract extension

Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce that highly rated youngster Matt Cox has signed an Academy contract extension.

Blindside flanker Cox is rated as one of the most promising young players at Sixways after impressive displays in the Academy and Guinness A League teams this season.
The 18-year-old’s rugby journey started as a teenager at Woodrush Rugby Club and then moved through the Worcestershire U18, North Midlands and Midlands squads before he won England U18 honours and a solitary U19 cap last season.
Cox – also a product of England’s Intermediate National Academy – has continued to delight the Sixways rugby mentors who have guided his career this season with further international appearances in the U21 Six Nations Championship. He is also pushing hard for a place in the U19 World Championships in Northern Ireland in April.
Warriors starlet Cox joins England U20 team-mate Matt Mullan and Tom Wood as youngsters who have already committed themselves to Sixways next season.
And Academy Manager Andrew Stanley said he was delighted that the club had beaten off interest from other Premiership sides to agree a 18-month extension with Cox.
“We are delighted that Matt has signed a new contract extension with the club and that we can continue to guide his career and development at Sixways,” said Stan.
“Warriors supporters who’ve seen him play for the Academy and the A team this year will know what a contribution he’s made for Worcester and will share our enthusiasm that he sees his future at Sixways.”
