Delport: Sinking Bath gives us huge lift

Thinus Delport admits Warriors have been given a huge boost in the bid for Guinness Premiership survival after his try double heroics sunk Bath at Sixways.

Worcester moved four points behind 11th-placed Northampton after they recorded a first-ever victory over Bath in the top-flight.
John Brain’s battlers now travel to Sale Sharks on Friday night as they bid to climb off the foot of the table.
And Springbok star Delport insists the victory over Bath has given the entire squad fresh belief that they can extend their top-flight status into a fourth season.
“Gaining our first home league win of the season gives us a real boost. It means a lot to us and the supporters,” he said.
“We are still bottom of the table, but this win just gets us that little bit closer. We can see a bit of light and that keeps the hopes up. We realise we have got to go out fighting in every game, which is what we want to do.”
Delport scored a brilliant brace of tries in the match and almost grabbed a hat-trick when he charged down a kick from Shaun Berne.
But the South African insists he was only concerned with team success after Warriors bounced back from the cruel derby defeat to Gloucester in style.
“I think I was a couple of centimetres from grounding it, I got to it but I was just too late, but all I care about is the victory for the boys,” he added.
“It has been a very difficult year for us but that result has given us a real lift and hopefully this can get the ball rolling.
“A lot of the games this season have gone the wrong way. When we played Gloucester we gave away points, all their tries were from our mistakes from our turnovers. It’s disappointing to lose in that manner when you know on the day you have performed better than the other side.
“When I had the close charge down try I’m sure the same thoughts went around the ground, everyone must have thought ‘here we go again’.
“But we made sure we stayed strong this time when we got our noses in front, that was what counted in the end.”
