Project Sixways unanimously backed

Work on the multi million development of Sixways is set to start in the next few weeks after the amateur club (Worcester RFC Limited) voted unanimously to support ambitious plans at the club’s EGM on Tuesday night.

Members of the amateur setup were given an in-depth presentation by Warriors General Manager Charlie Little and Adrian Harling, Chairman of the Mini/Juniors section and development committee, about plans to transform the face of Sixways over the next 18 months.

The development – known as Project Sixways includes:

  • A new underpass under Pershore Lane and Smite Lane allowing access to new land that has been purchased as a result of this planning application
  • The increase in capacity of 5000 spectators with enhanced stadium development.
  • The creation of a new Worcester North park and ride service to the city
  • A new building containing six new changing rooms and associated match facilities
  • The development of the Esporta Gym and Racquet club on site
  • A substantial new roundabout, development and improvements to Pershore Lane

Members of the club heard how the development would help sustain and meet the demand and future requirement of professional and amateur rugby in Worcester. It would also allow both organisations (Warriors and amateurs) to ‘co-habit’ and integrate with the ambition of becoming ‘the best rugby club in Europe’.

Details of land ownership, pitch use, changing rooms, car parking and a members bar were all discussed during the meeting before a vote unanimously passed the plans

“We’re delighted the amateur club have shown their clear support for the development of Sixways by unanimously backing it,” said Charlie Little, Warriors General Manager.

“We have a unique proposition in English Rugby. No other club has Premiership rugby on a potential 90 acres site with 24 teams running out as ‘Worcester Rugby’ every weekend. We must realise the potential in everything that we do and this is another big step forward.

“The development of Sixways will enable both organisations to work side-by-side and in two years we will be well on our way to achieving our objective as the best rugby club in Europe”
