A busy week at the Study Centre prior to the half-term break saw two new groups of visitors experience the delights of ‘Playing for Success’ study sessions.
Year 6 students from St. George’s CE Primary School, of whom several had previously attended or are currently attending, were joined by their guests from Collegio Gregorio Maranon from Toledo in Spain. The Spanish youngsters were visiting the city as part of a foreign exchange with their partners from Worcester.
The group participated in a two-hour PfS taster session and enjoyed a series of fun games and activities. Students made their own origami paper rugby shirts, took part in quick fire numeracy activities to reinforce mental calculations, played focused mental agility games and were involved in creating and making their own ID cards using the Centre’s laptop computers.
The session concluded with a tour around Sixways for the Spanish students who were largely unfamiliar with the game of professional rugby. The group had enjoyed walking the Malvern Hills prior to their visit and attended a barbeque and disco later in the evening with their hosts. The party were heading for a sightseeing trip to London on the following day.
Also new to the Centre was a small group of Year 7 to Year 10 students from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College who form a self-esteem group at the Sanctuary, a small special needs unit housed within the school. The group were so impressed by the Centre and its work that they requested a return visit – Centre Manager, Glynn Lodge, duly obliged and the group will return towards the end of the summer term to experience further ICT work.
