Sixways Live ’07 to help flood victims

Sixways Live ’07 has teamed up with the British Red Cross to give concert-goers the chance to make a donation to the National Floods Appeal.

The British Red Cross has set up an emergency fund to help victims like those here in Worcestershire who have been hit by crippling floods in the past few weeks.

And volunteers from the charity will be at the gates at Sixways Live ’07 to collect donations as music lovers descend on the home of Worcester Warriors for the concert that features Status Quo, Insanity Beach, Funky Skunk and My Sergeant Mask.

Warriors Chairman Cecil Duckworth said: “Everyone at the club has been concerned by the devastation caused by the brutal floodwaters in the past week. So many people across Herefordshire & Worcestershire have suffered horrific losses, including our sporting neighbours at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

“We have battled the weather ourselves to ensure the Status Quo concert goes ahead as planned and we hope visitors to Sixways will have a fantastic day out.

“But at the same time we have the chance those to help out those in need and I hope everyone who comes to Sixways Live ’07 will show their generosity, no matter how small, to this important appeal.”

Sir Nicholas Young, chief executive of the British Red Cross, added: “In recent weeks, hundreds of thousands of us have been victims of the unprecedented flooding which has hit large swathes of England.

“In response, scores or British Red Cross volunteers have been working tirelessly alongside the emergency and statutory services to distribute safe drinking water, bedding, clothes and food and to assist the homeless at rest centres.

“We have launched Red Cross National Floods Appeal to support our own devastated citizens through the disaster phase and beyond and would urge people to donate whatever they can.”

Anyone who wants to donate to the appeal can do so at the gates at Sixways Live ’07 or by calling 0845 054 7200 and quote National Floods Appeal.
