Warriors and Gloucester launch Rugby Relief

Worcester Warriors and Gloucester Rugby are delighted to reveal plans for ‘Rugby Relief’ to raise thousands of pounds for victims of flooding across the region.

As figure heads within the counties, the two sporting rugby neighbours decided to join forces to help those in dire need of assistance following the disastrous floods in the communities of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

Warriors and Gloucester can now announce plans to hold a joint rugby festival named Rugby Relief to raise valuable funds at Tewkesbury Rugby Club on Sunday, September 2nd.

The day will feature a Touch Rugby Tournament along with various other rugby challenges and events, with all proceeds going direct to the mayor’s offices of both Gloucester and Worcester to ensure the money raised is distributed across the region.

To kick off the fundraising a sum of £30,000 has been jointly donated by the two clubs involved.

Worcester chairman Cecil Duckworth said: “Both clubs are determined to help victims of the disastrous floods across our region and hope that Rugby Relief can generate huge funds for those that need it most.

“I would ask all of our supporters, sponsors and corporate partners to get involved in such a worthwhile cause to raise as much money as we possible can.”

Tom Walkinshaw added: “Although this is a national crisis the areas worst affected have been Gloucestershire and Worcestershire and this is the driving factor in the two major sports clubs coming together and showing the strength and solidarity rugby has always been famed for at this time of need.”

Stars from both Worcester Warriors and Gloucester Rugby will also appear at the Rugby Relief event to sign autographs and meet visitors.

Premiership Rugby Community activities, unique rugby auctions are also scheduled to take place at the festival with food and drink all available on the day.

The social Touch Rugby Tournament will involve teams of ten who will play in a round robin tournament with finals. Club and social teams are encouraged to make a minimum donation of £200 (£20 per person). Corporate and business teams are asked to make a minimum donation of £1,000. All teams entering are also encouraged to raise further funding through sponsorship via their employers or individual sponsorship.
