Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock believes his Warriors have shown they can be a ‘force’ in the Guinness Premiership after the narrow defeat to London Irish.
Warriors lost their final pre-season game 23-14 to top-flight rivals Irish in an entertaining Sixways clash.
But Ruddock insisted the first half show gave him plenty of confidence that his troops are on the right road to making a big impact this season.
“We were disappointed to lose the final warm-up game, but I felt in the first half we showed that there is enough in the team to be a real force in this division. We created a lot of chances.
“In the second half we made errors; we would have liked to have had more experienced players on the field.
“But the real positives were the first half and if we make adjustments to our composure before we face Bath we can go there with real hope.
“I was delighted with the ambition, skill level and fitness levels we showed, what is most encouraging is that there is still more to come.”
Ruddock also praised young fly half Joe Carlisle who scored all the Worcester points after being named as a late replacement for Shane Drahm.
“I have been impressed with Joe in training, his skills are exceptional and he scored a great try,” added Ruddock.
“Overall his playing making ability and potential is considerable, he just needs to get more experience and the events of Saturday would have given him just that.
“Coming into the team at the last minute against a top side like Irish is never easy, he did very well and was a credit to himself.”
