Ruddock calls for Warrior spirit

Mike Ruddock has urged his Worcester Warriors to turn back the clock when they entertain Saracens at Sixways Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 5pm).

Warriors last played Saracens on the final day of last season when they needed victory to ensure top-flight status.

The Sixways side produced a stunning display to run out 22-7 winners and now Ruddock has now called on his troops to reproduce that form and open their account in the Guinness Premiership this campaign.

“I think Saracens will remember the game last season and the physicality of the Warriors, we have got to reproduce that,” he said.

“It is going to be a tough day for us but we know we are capable of beating them which helps our confidence.”

Ruddock is forced into one change with Samoan centre Dominic Feaunati ruled out with a hamstring injury. Mark Tucker replaces him in the starting line-up with Gary Trueman coming onto the replacements bench against his former side.

“Saracens have gone up a notch this season, they have scored some really good tries and the opening weekend win over Wasps really got their confidence going,” added Ruddock.

“They look a very complete team, their forward pack is physical and aggressive around the contact area, and the backs are very exciting to watch. They’re a dangerous team who put points on the board. We have got to be at our best defensively and in terms of discipline.”
