Mike Ruddock was left cursing Warriors misfortune as they were narrowly beaten by Saracens at Sixways Stadium.
Worcester led the clash on home soil after a stunning first half try by wing wonder Marcel Garvey – his second in two games in league games at Sixways.
But a crushing interception try by Rodd Penney – later dubbed a ‘killer blow’ by Director of Rugby Ruddock – let Saracens back into the game.
And the Men in Black just managed to maintain then lead to edge home in the second half despite a battling display by the home side.
“It could have been very different; the gods don’t seem to be with us at the moment,” said Ruddock.
“The intercept try was like Christmas for Sarries, it was a killer blow to us.
“It was like last week, we play a bit of rugby at times and then Thinus threw a pass out last week and they hack on and score. The same thing happens again and that was very unlucky. The winger made a big call and stepped up because he was outnumbered, sometimes wingers do that and he made a good call.
“Second half we kicked the ball on they picked it up and ran through, it was a bad chase by us but again it could have been very different.
“I looked at the referee because he went for his whistle for a bit of obstruction and we all went a bit flat footed because he didn’t blow. There was definitely a Saracens player in front of the guy who scored, the key question is was he accidentally there or was he stopping our guy tackling. But the referee didn’t think so and we need to respect that.
“I thought we showed some good defensive shape and some good attacking moments with tons of movement of the ball and one fantastic try.
“But our own errors killed us; it’s difficult to put your finger on why things are going against us.
Warriors are now still hunting a first win in the Guinness Premiership and head to Leeds Carnegie on Friday in a huge clash.
And Ruddock believes his team will go to Headingley in good heart after again moving forward despite defeat.
“I think we made some progress with some great moments,” he added.
“Our tight play and driving lineouts were very good and some of our scrimmaging was good. Our defensive shape was good and the only time they broke us was from that kick ahead.
“Two lapses by us but otherwise I thought we were the better side, but we were playing against the scoreboard which is a difficult thing to do.
“We are giving too many points away and we gave the ball away a little bit too much in the contact zone, we just need to cut out individual errors.”
