Premiership giants pledge cash to Rugby Relief

Worcester Warriors and Gloucester Rugby joined forces to hold Rugby Relief this summer to raise thousands of pounds for victims of flooding across the region – and now the clubs have officially handed over their donations.

As figure heads within the counties, the two sporting rugby neighbours decided to join forces to help those in dire need of assistance following the disastrous floods in the communities of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

The clubs held Rugby Relief at Tewkesbury Rugby Club on September 2 with the day featuring a Touch Rugby Tournament along with various other rugby challenges and events, with all proceeds going direct to the mayor’s offices of both Gloucester and Worcester to ensure the money raised is distributed across the region.

So far Rugby Relief event has raised a staggering £70,000 – a total that is still climbing – and that was helped by a sum of £30,000 jointly donated by the two clubs involved.

And before the derby day clash between the two teams at Kingsholm, the cash was handed over as Warriors chairman Cecil Duckworth and Gloucester owner Tom Walkinshaw who were joined by the Bishop of Gloucester, the Rt. Rev Michael Perham, and Mayor of Cheltenham, Coun John Rawson.
