Wood to skipper strong Academy side

Back row rising star Tom Wood will lead Warriors Academy when they face Bristol United in a development game at Sixways on the stadium pitch tonight (Monday) with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Wood, who has played Guinness Premiership action this season, is just a number of players who will be eager to impress in the game under floodlights.

Fly half Joe Carlisle starts at ten and will be looking to build on his pre-season show against London Irish when he scored a superb individual try.

Summer signing Shaun Ruwers starts in the front row alongside Matt Mullan and Callum Black.

Monday night crowds have been richly entertained by the rising stars of Sixways in recent years with the Academy recording victories over Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks last season. The games are fast and open and have attracted a growing following.

Entry to the Bristol game is FREE for all supporters and Academy boss Andrew Stanley has urged fans to turn out in number to watch the next generation of Warriors.

“It is a great opportunity for us to get our season going on home soil and for the boys to push themselves forward for A selection in the coming weeks,” he said.

“We had some fantastic nights at Sixways last season with some real entertaining rugby and I hope supporters come out to back the boys and see the hard work we are putting in behind the scenes at the club.”
