Warriors must regroup – Griffiths

Head Coach Clive Griffiths apologised to supporters and admitted the Warriors would need to regroup after they suffered an 47-16 EDF Energy Cup defeat to Ospreys.

All the action was beamed around the world as Warriors welcomed the reigning Magners League champions to Sixways Stadium.
But there was no first win of the season for Warriors in front of the cameras as they suffered a big defeat to the international packed Ospreys.
“I can’t understand why we looked so flat and disorganised at times, that was desperately disappointing and sorry for the home support. It didn’t look a contest,” said Griffiths.
“They had a good start and we didn’t. They are a very good side and likely to do that, they clicked and they have pace and power right across the board. Both wingers are outstanding finishers in their own right.
“To get an opening rugby game here we will have to go through some pain and that was very painful. They hit their straps and all credit to them, it’s great to see Welsh rugby played like that.
“We’re not well at the moment and the only thing we can do is come out and fight. I have been in this situation before as a player and a coach, you take the plaudits and you take the criticism.”
Ospreys ran in seven tries to take complete control of the cup clash – including three in the final ten minutes.
And Griffiths admitted they had shown Warriors the way forward and the approach they want to adopt.
“We want to play that way and ultimately when we do get it right we will be rewarded. We have had some excellent occasions in the season so far when we have been getting it right, but we are not consistent enough,” he said.
“That is where we want to be, we know we have got a big job on, we just hope that the guys coming in will inject some spark.
“At the end, with the game won, they were offloading over their shoulder and passes were sticking, but they have got an international team, let’s remember that. They even had international players coming off the bench.
“Shipping nearly 50 points at home is not good enough and we are going to take criticism. We need to burn the midnight oil even more and work even harder to prevent days like this for our supporters who I want to apologise to.
“We know the score, there is going to be criticism after that, but we’ve got broad enough backs to take it and you come through.”
