Talei handed debut for Quins trip

New signing Netani Talei will make his Warriors first team debut in the EDF Energy Cup as one of four changes for the clash with Harlequins (kick-off 3pm).

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock hands the Fijian international, fresh from his World Cup exploits and try-scoring debut in the Guinness A League on Monday, the No.8 shirt as part of a changed back row.

Talei replaces Gavin Quinnell, who moves to the bench, with Kai Horstmann ruled out with a knee injury. Rising star Tom Wood returns to the starting line-up and joins skipper Pat Sanderson in the back row.

Loki Crichton moves to full back with James Brown handed the fly half jersey.

Matt Powell comes in at scrum half with namesake Ryan Powell ruled out for six weeks with a broken metatarsal in his left foot. Nick Runciman steps up to the bench and is joined by Chris Pennell who returns to full fitness after a rib injury.

“We have made some adjustments this week and we feel it will work for us,” said Ruddock. “We have selected a battle hardened and senior team to get out there and try and restore our reputation.

“We have also made some changes with Tom Wood deservedly given an opportunity, he started the season brightly and has played very well for the A team, he is a fine young prospect.”
