Warriors boss Mike Ruddock praised his team’s character as they bounced back from the heavy Ospreys defeat to claim a first victory of the season at Harlequins.
Ruddock celebrated a first competitive win of his era as Warriors grabbed a tense 23-22 win after tries from Netani Talei, Aleki Lutui and Pat Sanderson.
It was the perfect response from Warriors after the bitter disappointment of heavy defeat to Welsh side Ospreys in front of the television cameras the previous week.
And Ruddock was clearly delighted that his troops had responded to a difficult week and produced a gritty and determined display to edge to victory.
“We had a real deep look at ourselves this week, the coaching staff as well,” said the Director of Rugby.
“Sometimes in life – and in this case sport – it is how you come back from letting yourself down. That was what was important us against Quins and I was pleased with what I saw.
“Hopefully that is the standard we can expect now – that is something I will be reinforcing to them in the coming weeks.”
Warriors now turn their attention to the European Challenge Cup and Ruddock has ordered his side not to think too far ahead.
“We are not getting carried away, it was a hard-earned victory and we are very pleased for the players that they responded in the right way,” he said.
“Hopefully we have now set the benchmark for what is acceptable. We believed we could play rugby and do the right things and put an 80-minute performance together. We didn’t quite to that, we could have got burnt at the end, but we are closer. I’m hoping last week was just a blip.
“We have showed some good moments to build on and on the back of this we can strive to the levels we are after.”
