Warriors ready for explosive Tigers test

Academy boss Andrew Stanley has urged fans to turn out in force to watch the fireworks on the pitch when Warriors face two-time champions Leicester Tigers in the Guinness A League at Sixways Stadium tonight (kick-off 7.30pm).

Warriors began the new A League campaign in the best possible fashion last Monday with a maximum point win over Sale Jets at Heywood Road.

Stanley is now urging his side to make it back-to-back victories and wants fan power to play its part with a big crowd creating an exciting atmosphere inside the stadium.

“The players are really looking forward to playing at Sixways again and we are looking for the same level of support and backing that we enjoyed last season,” he said.

“The fans making noise really makes a difference to the team and I hope we can pack out the stadium for what is sure to be an exciting game.

“We have selected a side that contains a nice mix of youth and experience and the fixture will give all the players to show the senior coaches what they are capable of.”

Matt Mullan will lead the team tonight – in place of first team call-up Tom Wood – and starts at hooker in a front row that also features Callum Black and summer signing Shaun Ruwers.

Rising star Jonny Arr is named at scrum half while Tim Collier continues his return to fitness at lock and second row Graham Kitchener starts just days after penning a new two-year deal.

Leicester Tigers include three former Warriors in Richard Blaze, Alex Moreno and Gavin Hickie.

* Entry to tonight’s Guinness A League clash with Tigers is free for debenture and season ticket holders. Normal entry is £3 for adults and free for juniors. Gates open at 5.30pm.
