Thumbs Up for Warriors All Blacks Camp

Billed as an ‘All Black New Year,’ the cold-snap in the weather may have meant that Warriors reach was more than just on the rugby pitch, but our Community Department, supported by npower, brought some relief and delivered not only the clubs All Black stars, but also one of the best rugby camps, the county, let alone the stadium has seen.

Returning to Sixways after a long absence through stadium developments, the Premier Rugby Academy Camp saw a record breaking attendance of 100 eager juniors (aged between 6 and 16) from Worcestershire and beyond. All took to the field and learned from some of the best coaches in the county, as well as a host of special guests including Rico Gear, Sam Tuitupou, Greg Rawlinson, Ben Gotting, and Shane Drahm.

The January rugby camp (Jan 3/4) – following a national programme – utilised the latest techniques and ideas from the very top of the game, with Warriors stars also answering questions, passing on top tips and signing autographs for all in attendance.  While also addressing handling, contact and running skills based around games and decision making ensured that the young players attending maximise their potential and enjoyed a fantastic rugby union experience – we hope they will never forget.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable two days, and the feedback from players and parents has been very positive.” This is much to the credit of all the coaching staff, and of course the players, who were fantastic and hard working throughout,” commented Simon Lane, Warriors Community Rugby Coach.

The camp even captured the imagination of the national media, with Sky Sports, turning up to film camp footage and interviews with the All Black recruits on behalf of it popular rugby union show, ‘Rugby Club.’ The footage is due to be shown on this coming thursdays show.

The next Warriors camp will take place on February 14/15 at Sixways Stadium, with details posted online at www.wrfc.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you all soon.
