Young Warriors crowned national champions!

Worcester Rugby Club Under 14s were crowned Gulliver’s National Champions and received their trophy at Twickenham on May 31, beating Waterloo U14s 7-5 in a thrilling curtain raiser to the Guinness Premiership final between Leicester and Wasps.

Waterloo initially went ahead with an unconverted try. In the second half Worcester’s Will Pinnell scored the vital try which was expertly converted by team captain Tom Sharwood.

The victory came at the end of a highly successful season for the young Warriors, who also won the North Midlands Cup for the second successive year, beating Bridgenorth in the final 13-10 at Luctonians RFC at the end of April. Worcester Under 14s also ended an unbeaten four year (and over 60 games) record held by Market Bosworth, whom they beat in a tense match which finished 15-14 in Worcester’s favour at Sixways earlier in the season.

Paul Byrne, Manager of the Worcester U 14s, said: “This has been our best season ever. The lads and coaches have worked hard all season to achieve national success. We are all very proud of them and look forward to another successful season starting in September.”

The season will be celebrated in traditional rugby style with a Presentation and Awards evening at Sixways on Saturday, June 14. Guest of Honour will be Jonny Arr, of the Worcester Warriors first team. Jonny’s early playing days started in the Worcester RFC mini junior section and he will be an inspiration to our potential young stars of the future.

If you would like to join the winning Worcester Under 14s for next season contact Paul Byrne via the Worcester Warriors website. New players are always welcome. The age group is able to field two teams most Sundays and regularly plays against top regional and national opposition as well as local teams.
