Warriors back Dads and Lads Project

Warriors new boys Ben Jones and Matthew Jones visited the library yesterday (July 3), to give out awards to the young people who have been taken part in the Dads and Lads project.

The project aims to increase motivation amongst reluctant readers. Children from St Barnabas, St George’s and Perdiswell School were present to receive their awards.

National statistics indicate that young boys are reluctant readers. This project aims to help reverse this trend by getting male role models, particularly dads, to participate in activities with lads at the library.

Warriors fly half Matthew Jones said that the project was “A great idea. The children have all enjoyed the project and it’s great to see them improving their motivation to read.”

“It was good to see so many dads present supporting the project and helping their children become more interested in reading, because it is such an important skill,” added scrum half Ben Jones.

Warriors Education Programme Co-ordinator Dave Rogers said that Warriors were planning on working closely with the library on future projects.

“The Dad’s and Lads project has been a great success and it was fantastic to see so many children enjoying their reading. We hope that Warriors and the library can work together to help improve attitudes to reading throughout the county,” commented Dave Rogers.
