Warriors prepare for Middlesex Sevens draw

Worcester Warriors could face the might of Wales as they aim to go one better in the Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham this year.

Warriors were agonisingly edged out by a single point by Newcastle Falcons in the showpiece final last season as they came close to lifting the Russell Cargill Cup.

The draw for the competition on Saturday, August 16 will be made tomorrow (Thursday) at noon and Warriors could face some new faces this season.

Welsh regions The Ospreys and The Dragons will compete at Twickenham this year, along with previous winners the British Army and National One promotion favourites Leeds Carnegie. Those four teams will join the twelve Guinness Premiership teams to make a sixteen team competition.

The Ospreys are no strangers to Twickenham, having played in two EDF Energy Cup Finals there in the past two seasons, winning the trophy in 2008 by beating Leicester Tigers.

The British Army were twice winners, in 2001 and 2004 and will be amongst the favourites again with a team normally boasting a strong Pacific Islands presence.

Leeds Carnegie were quarter finalists last season and the tournament will provide the first competitive outing for new coaching team Andy Key and Neil Back.

The Middlesex Sevens takes place on August 16 at Twickenham Stadium. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster on 0871 871 0777 or by visiting http://www.middlesex7s.com/

The draw will appear at http://www.warriors.co.uk/ from 12noon tomorrow.
