Clive Griffiths coach education evening

Over 125 coaches from all over the West Midlands arrived at Sixways Stadium on Monday evening to watch Head Coach Clive Griffiths deliver a coach education programme which is one element of the Warriors community development programme, supported by principle partners npower.

Griffiths talked in detail about his coaching philosophy and approach to team attack to the audience which included former Welsh international Jason Forster now plying his trade as Director of Rugby at Henley Hawks.

The theory was then put into practice as the large number of guests descended on the Warriors indoor training centre to watch ‘Griff’ put the Warriors AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) athletes through their paces in a session which developed phase play attack in a fashion similar to that that the Warriors coaching staff are developing with the main squad.

Also present were Guinness Premiership title sponsors with their grass roots promotional campaign offering opportunities to clubs from the top level of rugby right to the very grassroots. For more information visit www.guinness-clubtogether.com

Simon Lane, who coordinated the event, said: “The night was a great success and it is so important that coaches operating at the very top of our sport demonstrate good coaching practice and support the work which is happening in the community game.

“Clive’s session was full of innovation and passion and it was good to share the event with coaches from right across the region, as well as Georgina from Guinness Club Together and the AASE athletes.”

Clive Griffiths added: “I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and was impressed with the knowledge and insight of the coaches attending and the players that took part.

“We have already seen the value of a strong Academy programme with the emergence of 12 players in the last two years graduating through the Academy to represent the club in the Guinness Premiership.

“This success starts in their clubs and with their club coaches. With this in mind supporting the development of the game at every level bodes well for continued success.”
