Mike Ruddock praised the character of fly half Matthew Jones as he overcame a difficult night with the boot to help Warriors to away day glory.
Jones slotted four penalties and conversion at Edgeley Park as Warriors tasted victory but also saw a number of kicks fail to find their target.
But Director of Rugby Ruddock was delighted with the way Jones handled the increasing pressure on him throughout the match and stepped up to the plate to nail a late kick to secure the win.
“Matthew apologised after the game to me, he knew he missed opportunities, but the great thing about good goal kickers is coming back, stepping up and not be afraid to go again,” said Ruddock.
“That is what he did all through the night and he nailed an important penalty ten minutes before the end which pout us two scores ahead which was important. I commend him for that.
“The best goal kickers can have an off day, it is how they come back from that and he came back well and kicked that important goal for us.”
After the match Ruddock dismissed any fears over the fitness of Sam Tuitupou after he came off in the latter stages after revealing the Pocket Rocket had been battling a virus all week to play.
But he admitted scrum half Ryan Powell faced an enforced layoff after suffering a knee injury midway through the second period.
“Ryan has damaged a medial ligament and could be out for six to eight weeks,” revealed Ruddock.
“That is a big shame for him, he has been very competitive in the scrum half position with Matt Powell and a few other guys.
“Now he had become first choice he will be gutted to be out of action for a few weeks. But hopefully, as things settle down, it will be a bit quicker than that.”
