Boss reveals Jones fracture fears

Warriors boss Mike Ruddock has revealed Matthew Jones could face a spell on the sidelines after a suffering an ankle injury against Newcastle Falcons.

Fly half Jones, who has been in inspired form since a summer arrival at Warriors, limped off after just 23 minutes of the Guinness Premiership clash and now faces an anxious wait to discover the full extent of his injury.

“Matt needs an x-ray on his foot,” admitted Ruddock. “It has been an on-going ligament problem in his ankle which goes back to the Wasps game when he missed the game after in the league.

“This doesn’t appear to be the same injury – this appears to be more of a bone issue.

“This is a possibility he could have a fracture. We are hoping that is not the case but we will know more over the next 48 hours.”

Warriors also lost Chris Latham during the game to a knee injury and hooker Chris Fortey was also taken off early on in the first half after suffering at the breakdown.

“It was an expensive night with a few bumps and bruises picked up,” added Ruddock.

“Chris Fortey took a heavy knock on his shoulder, but I would be surprised if it keeps him out for too long.”
