Boss – Team fired up for Quins

Mike Ruddock has urged his Warriors to take the frustration of a called off Guinness Premiership game out on Harlequins – and believes now is a good time to make the trip to the Twickenham Stoop.

Warriors face a third clash with Harlequins this season when they make the journey to the capital on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Director of Rugby Ruddock insists his team can make it third time lucky and two defeats on home soil in league and cup and secure a crucial victory to climb the table.

And he believes carrying the enthusiasm from training into the game will be key.

“We had prepared really hard for last week against Sale, the attitude was good and we were looking forward to the battle so to not be able to play was a blow to us,” he said.

“Unfortunately the conditions beat us in the end and that was frustrating, but we are now really looking forward to going to Harlequins.

“We are a game down now and because of that we slipped down the table a few places, that is not what we wanted going into the New Year and hopefully we can reschedule that game as soon as possible.

“We are fresh and our preparation this week has been noticeable enthusiastic because the boys are not carrying bumps of soft tissue injuries, we are hoping to take that into the game.

“Harlequins are a very good team but we beat them there in the EDF Energy Cup last season so we know we can win,” he added.

“They don’t play an overly sophisticated game but they do things very well, they don’t make many mistakes and put pressure on the opposition. You have got to be impressed with a side that did what they did against Stade Francais twice.

“But, after a few really tough games – including a very hard game against Wasps when they picked up some injuries – we feel it is a good time to face them.”
