Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has revealed centre Sam Tuitupou has had a successful operation on his injured knee.
New Zealand centre Tuitupou will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Guinness Premiership clash with Newcastle Falcons.
Tuitupou, who has made 35 appearances for Warriors and scored 12 tries, went under the knife in London with a leading orthopaedic surgeon on Wednesday morning and Ruddock has revealed early indications are of a successful ACL reconstruction.
“Sam had his operation today and that has gone successfully,” said Ruddock.
“We are waiting to hear a little bit more, but he is down in London and has had the surgery he needs on his knee.
“We expect to hear more from the surgeon, however, the early indications are that it has gone well.”
Auckland-born centre Tuitupou is now scheduled to spend the first six weeks of his rehabilitation at Warriors before returning home to spend time back in New Zealand.
The 26-year-old will work with the Auckland Blues physiotherapists and conditioners, as has always done when he has returned home, before returning to Warriors in May.
